In September 2013, when Xiang Linxiang entered the Yuling Weightlifting School in Guzhang County for training, she was less than 1.15 meters tall. Despite her petite stature, she stood out in the enrollment selection for her astonishing explosive power, getting a score of 1.64 meters in the long jump. Her outstanding athletic talent and explosive power made her the focus figure in the eyes of Yang Qingdong, a coach.
During the five years of hard training at Yuling Weightlifting School, Yang Qingdong paid close attention to Xiang Linxiang’s diet and daily life.
During the training, the Yuling Weightlifting School strictly implemented the training plan, and Yang Qingdong guided Xiang Linxiang with his professional attitude to ensure that every detail reached the perfect standard and that strength was properly exerted.
Yang Qingdong not only focuses on improving skills, but also on cultivating mentality. He constantly inspires Xiang Linxiang to face difficulties in training with a positive attitude.
Under his careful guidance, Xiang Linxiang’s weightlifting skills have gradually improved and made qualitative breakthroughs, achieving excellent results in domestic and international competitions and gradually becoming a shining star in the weightlifting industry.
In September 2018, Xiang Linxiang won 2 gold medals in weightlifting at the 13th Sports Games of Hunan. In December, Xiang Linxiang was selected into the Hunan Provincial Team, starting her glorious sports career.
In May 2020, Xiang Linxiang officially became a provincial professional team athlete.
In July 2022, Xiang Linxiang became a national athlete with outstanding performance.
In June 2023, Xiang Linxiang was admitted to the Department of Physical Education, Peking University.
In June 2024, Xiang Linxiang officially joined the national weightlifting team.
In December 2024, Xiang Linxiang won the gold medal in the 49kg snatch at the Bahrain Weightlifting World Championships.
Xiangxi Prefecture has cultivated three Olympic champions, namely Yang Xia, Long Qingquan and Xiang Yanmei, as well as many world champions like Long Jinbao, Zhang Liang and Xiang Linxiang.
In recent years, it has won a total of 271 gold medals in national level and above events, including 4 Olympic gold medals and 8 national games gold medals.
This year, the prefecture issued an action plan to promote the high-quality development of sports with 18 specific tasks from five aspects.
